Our year end accountant Richard shares his daily routine and career progression story.

Hello Richard, tell us a bit about yourself
Let me introduce myself, I am Richard Daly and I work in the Year End Section of CRASL.
I am originally from London Islington, to be precise I grew up just a short distance from Highbury Stadium. I moved to Suffolk in 2003 and have two grown-up daughters and a grandson.
What does a year end accountant do?
Working in the Year End section in the office, it pretty much is what it says on the tin, I review and analyse accounts from clients to produce a set of statutory accounts and calculation of any tax liabilities.
What does your daily routine look like?
As a result of COVID my working pattern has changed and I work 3 out of 5 days from home but my days tend to start early, either in the office or from home, I am normally working by 7.30 am.
My routine consists of taking a client pack of information and going through what has been provided and converting that into a recognisable format to form the basis of a set of accounts or taking a clients personal earnings information and from that producing a draft tax return.
What is the best part of being a year end accountant?
The best part of my job is the variety of clients that I deal with.
What is your top piece of advice for someone wanting to do the same job role?
Study, research changes to the accounting landscape and always be willing to learn new things.
How did your career develop to where it is now?
I applied to join the CRASL team in 2017 and started in October, I came straight into the Year End role, but I have been working in the public and private sector.
I have worked for charities and companies that trade worldwide. I started as a purchase ledger clerk and some 30 years later I have found myself here.
What is the best thing about the CRASL office?
CRASL offers clients a broad breath of accounting services and its friendly team is what makes it stand out from other accounting firms
